There was a post recently on Facebook out of San Antonio, Texas, depicting a homemade pool in the bed of a pickup truck for the children of a local family. The post, which has since been removed, resulted in the family being the butt of many mean-spirited comments and insults. However, one San Antonio man, Todd Arredondo, thought the family was rather creative in their endeavor to find a way to help their kids cool off. He found the comments of posters on Facebook to be hurtful and decided to do something special for that family.

Arredondo was able to use the original photo on Facebook to locate that San Antonio family. Once the family was located, Arredondo discovered that they actually lived rather close to his own home in San Antonio. This information tugged even more at his heartstrings for this family and made him feel even better about his decision. What was his decision? To gift this family a pool, so the kids could have fun in a real pool rather than a makeshift version in the bed of a pickup truck.

This act of kindness spurred Arredondo into action to help other needy families in the area to cool off with their own pools. He went to his Facebook account and asked his circle of friends and family for donations, and within minutes he was able to raise $250. Arredondo then raised the bar to $500, and quickly raised this amount, too. He decided to open a GoFundMe account to raise even more funds to purchase as many pools as possible for local families with children in San Antonio. Arredondo raised over $2300 in less than 2 weeks. He’s named his campaign “Pools for Kids,” and as of June 30, 2016, he’s raised over $5000 in funds to purchase pools.

“I’ve met some amazing families and heard heartbreaking stories,” he said. “But at the end of the day, if you can put a smile on a kid’s face — it’s priceless.”

Arredondo told Kens5News,”I was just really thankful that God and all the people that really support this are able to get behind it so I can continue to do this. I want to do this all summer, as long as I can. The smiles and reactions are priceless.”

So far, Arredondo has given away 50 pools to local San Antonio families, and his goal is to give away over 100 over the course of the summer.
